Emily Schaefer

For those Sunrise Rotarians who could not attend our meeting January14th you missed a beautiful story.  Emily shared a service project she is involved with. Emily, some of her fellow dentists, two hygienists and a nurse participate in a program sanctioned by UB called "BOCA". They travel to a clinic in Tampico Mexico where they provide free dental service for the poor.  There are no dental facilities at this clinic so all equipment, medications, even the chairs patients sit in must be brought in by the team. Electricity can be a problem so the dental team uses miner's lights for illumination. They also provide this service in the US. In November Emily traveled to a town in Virginia where migrant workers live. Here she and her colleagues provided the same dental services to those who could not afford to see a dentist. Emily's presentation only lasted 7 minutes but it spoke volumes about the person she is. Sunrise is fortunate to count Emily among its members.
